What is an athletic scholarship? An athletics scholarship is a financial reward given to a student who a coach would like to study and play for their university. Scholarships can vary depending on the student’s academic and athletic achievements and abilities.
Am I eligible for this opportunity? If you are aged 16-23, in education or have been in the last 2 years and have a clean criminal record whilst playing your sport at a competitive level, you should be fine. We will advise you if you are not eligible.
What can I study? You can study any course that is available at the university you attend, many perceive that you must be a sports student, nothing could be further from the truth you can study a wide range of courses throughout the USA to meet you academic requirements.
How much will it cost per year? The amount you pay per year will depend on many factors. Each college sets its own individual fees per year just as each coach has a different budget to work with. Some colleges may ask you to contribute nothing at all whilst some colleges may require you to contribute some money towards tuition or housing.
What determines how much scholarship I get? Your scholarship will depend on your current ability (obviously the better you are the better chance you have of getting a better scholarship), but also your academic strength, position and simply how much money a coach has to spend on you all contribute to how much scholarship you will receive. It is our job to ensure we find you a scholarship which best fits your current situation.
What is the difference between NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA? Please see more information about this subject here.
Do you also get full 100% (full ride) scholarships? The level of the scholarship simply depends on what the coach of the college wants to offer. If a coach really wants a player they will offer them a high scholarship such as a 100% ‘full ride’, but the amounts differ. Typically our average client gets a scholarship around the 90% mark. This usually leaves them to pay roughly £4-5k throughout the year for something such as housing. However it is very difficult to predict what the offers players will get, hence why we only take on good players as they are the ones who coaches really want and offer larger scholarship money to.
Can I play in the MLS (for soccer)? Yes, the MLS uses colleges like professional clubs in the UK use youth academies. 90% of the players who enter the MLS draft will have come from college. However, don’t be fooled into thinking because you didn’t make it as a pro in the UK then in America it will be easy. It takes hard work and dedication in order to turn professional. No matter what level you play at in the US, if you stand out, you will be seen.
How many colleges are you linked with? We are in contact with around 95% of the colleges in the US. Not all colleges have the sport you may participate in. In total, there are over 3000 colleges.
What different states can you send me to? We have contacts in literally every state in the USA (apart from Alaska). From New York to Hawaii we can ensure you get looked at.
Should I wait until I finish my course to sign up? No, you need to get this moving alongside what you are doing now. The process to get out there cannot be done overnight and takes anything from 9 months to 2 years. The more time we have to work with you, the more scholarship money and offers there are available out there.
