SRUSA is excited to announce that former All-SAC and D2CCA All-Region selection, Tobias Karlsen, joins the team as a Scout for Europe.
Tobias, originally from Kongsvinger, Norway spent four years at Carson-Newman University in Tennessee, where he enjoyed a highly successful and decorated collegiate career which included All-Conference and All-Region honors.
Tobias continues to play at a high level after his collegiate career, currently competing in the Spanish 6th tier with CD Almuñecar City. His own personal experience combined with an in depth knowledge of the US College Soccer system makes him a valuable addition to the SRUSA team in his new role as a scout. We're excited to have Tobias as part of the #SRUSAfamily, and invited him to feature in a brief Q&A upon his appointment. Here's what he had to say:
What excites you about joining the SRUSA team?
I am excited to help other young players to fulfill their dream to go and compete at a high collegiate level. My main goal is to give opportunities to young players on the pitch as well as giving them lifetime opportunities regarding their education and possibilities after they graduate.
How was your experience in the US, and what advice would you give to others thinking of going down the College Soccer route?
My experience in the US was incredible. I created long-lasting friendships and a network all over the world. This opportunity gave me another outlook on the future both as a player and as a person. My best advice for other young players that are thinking of going down this path is to do it. It is an experience for a lifetime.
How do you think your experience as a College Soccer Athlete will help you in your new role as a SRUSA Scout?
I believe that my experience being a relatively highly accoladed collegiate player can provide good insight to new young promising players that are looking to going over to the US. I believe my experiences can help me to give the next generation of student-athletes a full insight into the experience, requirements, and responsibilities that will come of them after making the transition.
What are your expectations upon joining the SRUSA team?
I expect to be pushed and educated to be the best scout I can be which in turn will help the lives of many aspiring student-athletes looking to continue their playing career along with getting a top level educated simultaneously. My goal is to keep building this brand and expand opportunities for players all over the world.
